Greyhound history dates back at least 4,000 years. Originally from Egypt, they were taken by traders to Britain, Europe more... and the Orient. They were valued as hunters of such prey as gazelle, deer, fox, and rabbit. The sport of Greyhound racing (chasing a rabbit-like lure) has been around since the 16th Century, and some participants have been clocked at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour. While racing takes advantage of this breeds natural ability, it is the fate of these beautiful animals when their racing days are over that has necessitated the organization of Greyhound rescues and adoptions around the world. These wonderful dogs, once rehabilitated with lots of love and patience, become well-behaved and much loved members of the family. This video is Part 2 of a series on Greyhound Rescue.
